Game dev, tools, and the art of making things.

Is simple actually good?

As I sit down to my Elektron Digitone 2 with the intention to compose something for my new game I just realized something. Not only have I not touched this machine in over 6 months, but I haven't really been actively using any Elektron boxes for maybe two years. Those that ever used one know how powerful the workflow can be, and unlike what one may think, how intuitive it can get. But intuitivity and muscle memory only gets you so far with a complex machine.

I could speak at length for how this thing works, all the nuances and tricks, all of the power it has, things it can do, things I could do with it, things I did do with it while I was learning on its older version.

But time has passed, and while I do have a lot of muscle memory, a lot of it has also faded.
